Justice Reforms, Review and Capacity Building
Green Horizon’s Justice Sector Reform work is aimed at partnering with Justice Sector actors to improve and strengthen legal services mechanisms, usually after an institutional and strategic review. Green Horizon leverages on its expertise in the areas of Law and Development, and on firsthand knowledge and experiences. Examples are strengthening paralegal service; improving justice delivery by the courts, including Area courts and Sharia courts; introducing case management systems in mediation institutions, as well as courts and ministries of justice; support for multidoor court houses; drafting of laws for regulating voluntary policing groups; introducing Sulhu regulations; and developing strategies for implementation of laws and policies such as our work on the Child Rights legislation, and National and State Gender Policies.
- Capacity building of paralegals in Kano State supported by Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative
- Capacity Building of Sharia Court staff in Jigawa State under J4A project on Reform of Sharia Courts
- Capacity building and technical support to Multi-door courthouses and Community Law Centres which includes training on ADR
- Law Review of existing legal framework for ADR and Sulhu in Jigawa State
- Domestication of the National Gender Policy
- Development of a Bill for an Act to establish the Vigilante Group of Nigeria which has been passed by the National Assembly (now awaiting Presidential assent).
